This July, Cono Sur will continue to be Official Wine Partner to the most famous cycling event of them all: the Tour de France.

The Chilean winery will in June release their 2017 Limited Edition Cono Sur Bicicleta labels onto the Irish market in celebration of the winery's ongoing association with "La Grande Boucle" (aka the Tour de France).

Each bottle features new artwork exclusively commissioned by esteemed British artist Eliza Southwood, with her distinctive style celebrating the beauty, energy and elegance of cycling.

Pictured above is Irish cycling legend Seán Kelly with Cono Sur Chief Winemaker Adolfo Hurtado on St. Stephen's Green in Dublin, where they celebrated the partnership in idiosyncratic fashion.
The new limited edition Cono Sur Bicicleta labels feature different-coloured versions
of exclusively-commissioned artwork by British artist Eliza Southwood
Cono Sur was the world’s first carbon-neutral winery, and the bicycle has become a symbol that honours their employees and represents their commitment to developing a viticulture both in excellence and with respect for the environment.

As a result, Bicicleta, Cono Sur’s most popular range, is named after the bicycles their workers use to get around the vineyards, helping to keep their carbon footprint low and their grapes at optimum quality.

The Cono Sur Bicicleta wines have an RSP of €11.99 and are widely available nationwide.

Milmanda also joins the list of winners with a Gold Medal

Torres, Ireland's favourite Spanish wine brand (Nielsen) and three-time World's Most Admired Wine Brand (Drinks International) had much to celebrate recently following the recent release of the International Wine Challenge 2017 award winners.

Mas La Plana 2012 and Perpetual 2014, two of the Torres family's flagship wines, received top honours at the IWC by winning three trophies between them, the highest accolades given at the prestigious awards.

The famous Mas La Plana took home two of these trophies: one for best varietal wine (International Cabernet Sauvignon Trophy) and another for best regional wine (Penedès Cabernet Sauvignon Trophy), while Perpetual was voted the best Priorat red (Priorat Red Trophy).

Milmanda, the Torres family's flagship Chardonnay, joined the prestigious line-up with a Gold Medal, with the IWC judges commenting that it is,"A smashing example of quality Spanish Chardonnay with beautifully integrated oak complemented by white peach notes. Lush texture finishing on nectarine and apricot and a delicious hint of refreshing lime."
Mas La Plana originates from the 29-hectare vineyard of the same name in the heartland of the Penedès. In awarding Mas La Plana its trophies, the IWC judges commented that the wine was, “An impressive example of Cabernet Sauvignon with bright blackcurrant fruit, minty notes and finely integrated oak. Generously fruited and balanced, with ripe and smooth tannins.”

The same judges described Perpetual, an old-vine Cariñena and Garnacha grown on steep slopes of llicorella slate, as “a mouth-filling and generous example of Priorat, with deep dark fruits and notes of chocolate and nutmeg.”

Both wines had already won trophies at previous editions of the International Wine Challenge.

The International Wine Challenge awarded gold medals to 72 wines from various Spanish appellations of origin, 22 of which also went on to win trophies. Over 15,000 wines representing every wine region participated in the competition. A panel of judges of more than 300 international experts, including Masters of Wine, sommeliers, distributors, enologists and wine writers, conducted blind tastings to evaluate the qualities of each wine.

    www.glendaloughdistillery.com/our-gin-new-releases.

The new gin was launched in January at an invite-only party that featured Brian O'Driscoll and Amy Huberman, and the feedback on the locally-foraged spirit to date has been so positive that the company is distilling twice a day just to keep up with demand.

Glendalough Wild Botanical Gin has an RSP of €35 and is widely available from independent off-licences nationwide, such as O'Brien's, Mitchell & Sons, The Celtic Whiskey Shop, and more.

  • Jazz and Vintage Afternoon Tea at the Launch of the Bollinger Best Dressed Lady
  • Friday, April 07, 2017
Bollinger Champagne launched their sponsorship of the Punchestown Best Dressed Lady partnership in spectacular style on Tuesday 4th April.

Almost thirty invited guests packed an authentic, renovated, retro Routemaster bus run by Vintage Tea Tours, where they enjoyed a full, traditional afternoon tea while travelling through Dublin city centre.

Shortly after guests disembarked at The Polo Club in Phoenix Park, where a live three-piece Jazz ensemble headed by Stella Bass entertained the crowd while sipping flutes of Bollinger Special Cuvée.

On the return trip, stylist Marietta Doran, acting as MC, interviewed the celebrity Bollinger Best Dressed Lady judges Aisling O’Loughlin and Bláthnaid Treacy about what to look for during the festival.

Aisling O'Loughlin spoke about how the winners would "pop out" at the judges and so she hadn't fixed ideas of what to look for, instead trusting Irish women's innate sense of style to inform her decision.

Bláthnaid Treacy, meanwhile, said that with the different themes women can choose from nowadays - vintage, modern, etc. - that she's looking for those who look comfortable and confident in their outfits and are creative in assembling them.

Both were eagerly looking forward to hearing the stories behind some of the ensembles, with some items in an outfit sometimes carrying an interesting history, such as a key piece originally belonging to a beloved family member.

Bastien Mariani, Export Manager for Bollinger Champagne, will also be present at the Punchestown Festival to assist the celebrity judges in choosing this year's Bollinger Best Dressed Lady. He will be keen to find someone who perfectly matches the "Bollinger Style" that the Champagne itself is famous for: elegant, poised, and with a classic elegance.

With smooth jazz, vintage buses and crisp, elegant Bollinger Champagne, the exciting run-up to the Bollinger Best Dressed Lady at Punchestown was launched in excellent style.

Spain, 4th April 2017: Bodegas Torres once again reclaims its place at the top of the “World’s Most Admired Wine Brands” annual list of 50 wine brands according to UK-based magazine Drinks International.

This almost 150-year-old Spanish cellar returns to the number one spot after coming first twice before, which makes it the only Spanish and European winery to head the list.

Since the ranking first started seven years ago, Torres has always remained first European wine brand and either first or second at the World’s list.

Bodegas Torres, the only European winery amongst the top 10 brands, is followed by Chilean Concha y Toro and Australian Penfolds, which moved down from number one last year.

The 50 brands listed come from 11 different countries, 30 of which are within Europe. The most represented countries are France (with 14 wine brands), Spain (8), Australia (7) and New Zealand (5).

To create the ‘The World’s Most Admired Wine Brands’ list, Drinks International polled wine professionals from around the world, who were asked to vote following criteria such as wether the wine is of consistent or improving quality, if it reflects the region it comes from, it is is well marketed and packaged, etc.

Miguel Torres Maczassek, General Manager of Bodegas Torres, said: “This award makes us very proud as it is a recognition to the good work and effort of the whole team and distributors. The winery has been in the hands of my family for almost 150 years and we are still very involved in the day-to-day decisions from the vineyard to the table, and this gives us direction in the long term”.
